BEE REMOVAL

We believe in the protection of honeybees and offer a unique and ethical removal of honeycomb and bees - with live bee removal.  If you don't want to contaminate the environment, kill other bees or let insecticides enter the human food chain, you have come to the right place. It is a common misconception that bees are protected, they are in fact endangered and that is what we strive to practice and educate

BEE KEEPING

It is estimated that one third of the food that we consume each day relies on pollination from bees. Sadly, a world without bees is becoming more realistic as we are seeing a severe decline in bee populations. Bees play an important part in most ecosystems.

BEE HIVE DEMONSTARTIONS

We offer demonstrations regarding beekeeping, how to maintain a bee hive, how honey gets harvested and interesting facts about bees. The offer is available for schools, private groups and clubs. Sessions are 60-90 minutes and can be boooked by calling 078 909 9535.

ABOUT CRAZY DAISY

In 2010 an acquaintance of the Crazy Daisy couple quickly woke their interest when he told them about his desire to restart his beekeeping business again. It did not take long until the first bee boxes were set up and with every new box their passion for these incredible diligent workers grew.

In the early years of Crazy Daisy fellow bee-keepers proved very helpful and willing to share knowledge which made the project grow quickly. Together with the experience gained over the past decade Crazy Daisy has become active in bee removal, bee keeping and honey extraction. Crazy Daisy gladly visits schools and other education institutions for live demonstrations regarding the working of a bee hive. (To read more about bee hive demonstrations click here).

The incredible work ethic of bees, driven by their natural survival instincts is pure fascination. Crazy Daisy take the work ethic of bees as an example and is available for bee removals during the same working hours as bees – dusk to dawn. (To read more about bee removal click here).

The bees gift to us is natures gold. And to reach for it, it takes a good amount of enthusiasm. One has to……

RAW HONEY

GOLDEN IN COLOUR. RICH IN FLAVOUR. 100% LOCAL

Interesting Facts about Honey

HONEY FLAVOUR
South Africa's flora and fauna is unique, with a wide diversity of indigenous shrubs. The colour of honey depends on the source of the nectar and can range from water white to dark brown or almost black. The quality of honey has nothing to do with its colour. In our area we have fynbos blossom honey which is dark in colour and the taste is rich with a strong flavour.
CRYSTALLISATION
Raw honey still contains small amounts of pollen, propolis, beeswax and other slight impurities, which are largely responsible for honey's many health benefits. Those tiny bits and pieces are solids, just waiting for glucose to attach to them after they fall out of the sugar-water solution. The ingredients in high quality, raw honey is likely to encourage the formation of crystals. By design, pure honey undergoes filtration and pasteurisation, removing the solid particles that glucose can latch onto. This ensures that the honey won't crystalise and will remain attractive to consumers after extended times on store shelves.
SHELF LIFE
When sealed in an airtight container, honey is one of the few foods known to have an eternal shelf life. The substance is naturally antiseptic and low in moisture, making it an inhospitable environment for bacteria
PRODUCTION VOLUME
A productive bee colony can make 2 to 3 times more honey than they require to survive the winter. When harvesting honey from a beehive, beekeepers try not to take anything the bees will miss.
HONEY BEES
There are 20,000 species of bees on earth and only a small fraction of them make honey. There are just 7 known HONEY BEE species.
BEES WORK CYCLE
Bees work hard all summer to ensure they'll have enough honey to sustain the hive through winter. During the colder months, bees occupy their time by clustering themselves around the queen and shivering their bodies to fill the hive with warmth. All that shivering burns a lot of calories, so honey makes for the perfect high-energy diet.
